Most Vacaville addresses are in Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD). Some homes in the south part of the city are in Travis Unified School District instead, so type the exact address into each district’s locator and then call the district to confirm.
Don’t go by the city name on the listing. A Vacaville mailing address can sit in either district.
Which districts run schools in Vacaville?
Two. Vacaville Unified covers most of the city from its office at 401 Nut Tree Road. Travis Unified says it serves Travis Air Force Base, portions of Vacaville and Fairfield and parts of unincorporated Solano County, with about 5,400 students (Travis Unified, About Us page, checked September 24, 2026).
Here’s the part the old version of this page left out. Travis Unified says two of its five elementary schools are in the south portion of Vacaville (same page). So a home in south Vacaville may feed into Travis Unified schools, not VUSD.
How do I check one address?
Two free lookups and one phone call. Do it before you write the offer, or at the latest before your contingencies are up.
- VUSD School Locator. On the district’s School Boundary Maps page at vacavilleusd.org, open the School Locator Tool, enter the home address and click Find My Schools (VUSD, School Boundary Maps page, checked September 24, 2026).
- Travis Unified School Locator. The district posts an elementary boundary map and an address lookup on its School Locator page at travisusd.org. It says every Travis Unified high school student goes to Vanden High and every middle school student goes to Golden West Middle (Travis Unified, School Locator page, checked September 24, 2026).
- Call. VUSD: (707) 453-6114. Travis Unified: 2751 De Ronde Drive, Fairfield, (707) 437-4604 (district websites, checked September 24, 2026).
Why call if the tool gave you an answer? Because a resident school is not a promise of a seat. Travis Unified says students may be placed at any school in the district because of space, state rules or contracts (School Locator page, checked September 24, 2026). Ask about the specific grade you need.
Which schools does Vacaville Unified list?
The district’s school menu lists nine elementary schools, two middle schools and two comprehensive high schools (VUSD website, checked September 24, 2026):
- Elementary: Alamo, Browns Valley, Cooper, Edwin Markham, Eugene Padan, Fairmont, Hemlock, Jean Callison and Orchard
- Middle: Vaca Peña and Willis Jepson
- High: Vacaville High and Will C. Wood High
VUSD also lists an adult school, a preschool and charter and program options. The district’s own “Fast Facts” count is 12,703 students (VUSD home page, checked September 24, 2026). The state’s 2025 Dashboard shows enrollment of 11,463 for the district. The two numbers are counted differently, so don’t be thrown if they don’t match.
Travis Unified lists five elementary schools (Cambridge, Center, Foxboro, Scandia and Travis), Golden West Middle, Vanden High and the Travis Education Center (Travis Unified website, checked September 24, 2026).
What do the state numbers say about each district?
These come from the 2025 California School Dashboard, which uses 2024 to 2025 school year data. We read each figure on the district report pages at caschooldashboard.org on September 24, 2026.
“Points below standard” is how far the average student score sits under the “Standard Met” line on the state’s English and math tests. “Prepared” is the share of graduates the state counts as ready for college or a career.
| Measure (2025 Dashboard) | Vacaville Unified | Travis Unified | California |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | 14.6 below, up 7.2 | 7.1 below, up 5.8 | 8.1 below |
| Math | 61.8 below, up 0.6 | 41.9 below, up 2.5 | 42.4 below |
| Graduation rate | 92.8% | 98.1% | 87.8% |
| College/Career “Prepared” | 51.8% | 48.8% | 51.7% |
| Chronic absenteeism | 16.7% | 13.4% | 17.1% |
District numbers blend every school together. The school your address feeds into can be well above or below its district. After the locator gives you school names, search each one at caschooldashboard.org and look at a few years, not one.
Where do I find numbers for one Vacaville school?
On the same Dashboard. Type the school’s name in the search box at caschooldashboard.org and pick the 2025 report. You’ll see English and math results, chronic absenteeism, suspension rate and, for high schools, graduation and College/Career. Each school’s School Accountability Report Card, posted on the district website, adds class sizes and staffing.
What about GreatSchools, Niche and other ratings?
They’re private sites, each with its own formula. We don’t quote their scores as fact. If you look at them, read how the score is built and compare it with the state’s own numbers.
Could the school for a new Vacaville subdivision change?
It can. Vacaville keeps approving new homes, including 156 in the Vandengate and Vanden Cove subdivisions off Vanden Road in April 2026 (The Reporter, April 15, 2026), and districts can adjust attendance areas as subdivisions fill in. Changes go through each district’s school board, so check recent board agendas too. If you’re buying new construction, ask the builder which schools the lots are assigned to, then confirm with the district, because the builder doesn’t set boundaries.
Questions people also ask
Is all of Vacaville in Vacaville Unified?
No. Vacaville Unified covers most of the city, but Travis Unified says it serves portions of Vacaville and Fairfield, and that two of its elementary schools sit in the south part of Vacaville. Run the exact address through both districts’ school locators, then call the district to confirm, per the district websites checked September 24, 2026.
Which high school will a south Vacaville home go to?
If the address is in Travis Unified, the high school is Vanden High, because the district says all of its high school students attend Vanden and all middle school students attend Golden West Middle. If the address is in Vacaville Unified, the district’s School Locator will show Vacaville High or Will C. Wood High. Confirm the result with the district.
How do Vacaville Unified test scores compare with the state?
On the 2025 California School Dashboard, Vacaville Unified was 14.6 points below standard in English and 61.8 below in math, compared with 8.1 and 42.4 below for California. Its graduation rate was 92.8% against 87.8% statewide. Individual schools vary, so check each school’s own Dashboard report at caschooldashboard.org.
Does buying a home lock in a spot at the neighborhood school?
Not always. The address sets your resident school, but a seat in a certain grade depends on space. Travis Unified’s School Locator page says students may be assigned to any school in the district because of space, state rules or contracts. Call the district’s enrollment office and ask about the grade you need before you buy.
