Where can I hike near Crockett?

Start at Crockett Hills Regional Park. It covers 2,124 acres of grassy ridges above town, with a 4.5-mile segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail running through it. The main entrance is the staging area at 1300 Crockett Boulevard, parking there is free, and the old Crockett Ranch barn, milk house and corrals still stand near the picnic area (East Bay Regional Park District, Crockett Hills page, checked September 25, 2026). Dogs are allowed; check the posted rules at the trailhead.

The hills are steep and open, so bring water and go early on hot days.

What about the water?

Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline is the other big one. The park runs 1,568 acres along Carquinez Scenic Drive between Crockett and Martinez, with the Bull Valley Staging Area in Port Costa and Eckley Pier for fishing and strait views (East Bay Regional Park District, Carquinez Strait page, checked September 25, 2026). Check the park’s alerts page before you go, since facilities like water fountains sometimes close for repairs.

From many Crockett streets you also get the view without going anywhere: the Carquinez Bridge, the Al Zampa Bridge and ships moving through the strait.

What does Crockett have for recreation in town?

The Crockett Community Services District runs the basics. Its recreation department operates:

Is there a library in Crockett?

Yes. The Contra Costa County Library’s Crockett branch is at 991 Loring Avenue, (510) 787-2345. What’s the story behind downtown and the sugar refinery?

The town grew up around the C&H sugar refinery on the waterfront, which its owner says has run for nearly 120 years (ASR Group, C&H Sugar message, July 17, 2026). You see it in the older homes stepping up the hill and in the brick refinery buildings along the water. Downtown is small: a few blocks of local shops and restaurants rather than chain stores. Walk Pomona Street and Loring Avenue on a weekend to get a feel for it.

What events are coming up in Crockett?

Here is what is on the calendar right now:

  • Oktoberfest, Sunday, October 11, 2026, noon to 5 p.m. The Crockett Chamber of Commerce hosts its fifth annual Oktoberfest at 628 Second Avenue, with free admission, live music, food, and an open car show. Overflow parking is at Carquinez Middle School (Contra Costa News, event listing, checked September 25, 2026).

For recreation classes and seasonal events, watch the district’s recreation calendar at town.crockett.ca.us. Pool, park and sewer decisions are made at the district’s board meetings, the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the community center (Crockett Community Services District, checked September 25, 2026).

Where do people go for shopping and errands?

Out of town, mostly. Crockett’s downtown is small, so plan on Hercules, Vallejo or Pinole for big grocery runs and most shopping. The Carquinez Bridge toll applies only eastbound toward Vallejo; it is $8.50 for a two-axle car in 2026 (Bay Area FasTrak, Carquinez Bridge page, checked September 25, 2026). The trip back is free.
