Most of it happens on the water. Suisun City has a city-run marina with 160 slips and public launch ramps, a waterfront promenade next to Main Street, a 1914 train depot with trains to the Bay Area and Sacramento, and the Suisun Marsh at its back door (City of Suisun City, Suisun City Marina page; Capitol Corridor station page; both checked September 25, 2026).

What it doesn’t have is a big shopping district. It’s a small city, about 4 square miles, so for malls and big-box stores you’ll head into Fairfield. Here’s what’s here, and what’s on the calendar.

What can I do at the Suisun City Marina?

Keep a boat, launch one, fish, or just walk the water’s edge. The marina has 160 rental slips, a 300-foot guest dock and boat launch ramps at its south end. Public launching runs 24 hours a day for $10, paid with a parking permit through ParkMobile. There are fuel pumps and a pump-out station on the water (City of Suisun City, Suisun City Marina page, checked September 25, 2026).

From the marina, the dredged Suisun Channel connects to the waterways of the California Delta and San Francisco Bay. The city points to sturgeon and striped bass fishing, bird watching, kayaking and cruising the Suisun Marsh (same source). Check the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s license rules before your first fishing trip.

The harbormaster’s office is at 800 Kellogg Street. It’s open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on weekends, and the number is (707) 429-2628 (same source). If you’re shopping for a home with a boat in mind, call about slip availability before you fall for a house.

What events are coming up in Suisun City?

Three on the city’s calendar between now and early November, all free (City of Suisun City, Events directory, checked September 25, 2026):

Can I take the train from Suisun City?

Yes, from downtown. The Suisun-Fairfield Capitol Corridor station is at 177 Main Street, in a depot built in 1914 that the city calls the only remaining colonnade-style Southern Pacific station in Solano County. It was restored in the 1990s and again in 2016, and a pedestrian bridge links it to Fairfield (City of Suisun City press release, October 23, 2024).

The station has an indoor waiting area, two ticket kiosks and free parking, including 256 spaces at the Lotz Way Park and Ride with no time limit (Capitol Corridor, Suisun-Fairfield station page, checked September 25, 2026). On a weekday, train 525 leaves at 6:45 a.m. and reaches Emeryville at 7:45 a.m.; train 522 leaves at 7:36 a.m. and gets to Sacramento at 8:30 a.m. (Capitol Corridor weekday schedule, effective December 8, 2025, checked September 25, 2026).

That makes a car-free day in Oakland, Berkeley, Davis or Sacramento easy to plan, all stops on the same line. Weekend trains run on a separate schedule, so check it before you plan.

Where can I walk, bike or see the marsh?

Start right at the depot. Capitol Corridor lists these from the station (Suisun-Fairfield station page, checked September 25, 2026):

  • Central County Bikeway, about 400 feet away.
  • Suisun City Marina, a 10-minute walk, about half a mile.
  • Peytonia Ecological Reserve, about 0.9 miles, a 20-minute walk or 5 minutes by bike.

For a bigger outing, Rush Ranch is just outside the city line at 3521 Grizzly Island Road. Solano Land Trust manages its 2,070 acres of marsh and grassland, with more than 3 miles of trails, including the Marsh, South Pasture and Hill Slough trails, plus a blacksmith shop. It’s open every day, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from March 1 through October 31 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November 1 through February 28 (Solano Land Trust, Rush Ranch page, checked September 25, 2026). The land trust also runs guided walks there; check its calendar for dates.

What is downtown Suisun City like?

Small, on the water, and in the middle of change. The depot sits on Main Street, and Capitol Corridor puts the marina about a half-mile walk away, with the waterfront plaza and promenade in between. Several downtown projects are moving: 20 apartments under way at 400 Main Street, and the city’s sale of 701 to 713 Main Street to companies formed by California Forever’s CEO, which closed in September 2026 (Press Democrat, August 5, 2026; Local News Matters, September 2, 2026). What gets built on those lots hasn’t been announced.

If you like a quiet downtown, walk it on a Saturday night and a weekday morning before you buy. If you want a big restaurant scene, be honest with yourself that you’ll be driving for it.

Where do I go for bigger shopping?

Fairfield. Solano Town Center is about 2.4 miles from the depot, roughly a 10-minute drive or bike ride (Capitol Corridor, Suisun-Fairfield station page, checked September 25, 2026). Highway 12 connects Suisun City to I-80 in Fairfield.
