Three public districts, depending on the address. The Town of Discovery Bay says Byron Union School District serves students in Discovery Bay for elementary and middle school, Liberty Union High School District covers high school, and it also names Knightsen School District (Town of Discovery Bay, Discovery Bay Schools page, checked September 25, 2026). Verify the exact street address with the district before you count on a school.
Here’s which schools those are, what the state’s 2025 data says about each, and how to confirm the boundary for a specific home.
Which public schools are in Discovery Bay?
Two elementary schools, both in Byron Union School District. The middle school and the high school are outside town. From the Town’s schools page (checked September 25, 2026):
| School | Address | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery Bay Elementary | 1700 Willow Lake Road, Discovery Bay | (925) 809-7540 |
| Timber Point Elementary | 40 Newbury Lane, Discovery Bay | (925) 809-7550 |
| Excelsior Middle | 14301 Byron Highway, Byron | (925) 809-7530 |
| Liberty High | 850 Second Street, Brentwood | (925) 634-3521 |
| Knightsen Elementary | 1923 Delta Road, Knightsen | (925) 626-3304 |
We don’t list grade ranges here, because the Town’s page lists them inconsistently. Ask the district or the school office which grades each school serves and which school your address is assigned to.
The Town says Byron Union’s elementary schools are in Discovery Bay and its middle school is in Byron, and that the district also runs preschool, pre-kindergarten and before and after school care at its elementary schools. There’s one private school in town: All God’s Children Christian School, 1900 Willow Lake Road (same page). We don’t have state data for it.
How do I check which school a home is assigned to?
Call or check with each district. Don’t rely on a listing, a map app or a neighbor.
- Elementary and middle school: call the school office for the Byron Union school nearest the home (numbers above) and give the full street address. If the district tells you the address is in Knightsen’s area, call Knightsen Elementary at (925) 626-3304.
- High school: use Liberty Union’s Find My School locator, linked from luhsd.net. The district’s page says, “Close to a boundary line? Call 925.634.2166 x 2021 to verify!” (Liberty Union High School District, Find My School page, checked September 25, 2026)
- Get it in writing if a school matters to your decision, and do it before your contingencies expire.
Boundaries and enrollment rules can change. A confirmation from the district is the only answer that counts.
How do I read the Dashboard numbers?
The California School Dashboard comes from the California Department of Education. On the English and math tests it reports each school’s gap from the “Standard Met” score, in points. “32.9 above” means the school’s average beat that mark by 32.9 points. “16.4 below” means it fell short by that much.
Chronic absenteeism counts students absent for at least a tenth of the school days they were enrolled. The Dashboard reports it for K to 8 schools, not high schools.
What does the 2025 Dashboard show for Discovery Bay schools?
All figures below: California School Dashboard, 2025, each school’s report, read through the Dashboard’s public data service on September 25, 2026. The state figure is in the last row for comparison.
| School | Students | English | Math | Chronic absenteeism |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery Bay Elementary | 417 | 32.9 above | 23.7 above | 18.5% |
| Timber Point Elementary | 362 | 16.4 below | 13.2 below | 20.0% |
| Excelsior Middle | 377 | 19.4 below | 50.0 below | 24.6% |
| Knightsen Elementary (school) | 316 | 17.1 below | 43.5 below | 13.8% |
| California | 8.1 below | 42.4 below | 17.1% |
Byron Union’s district total on the Dashboard includes a charter school in Lodi, so we show school-level numbers instead. The district also runs Byron Institute for Independent Study at 40 Newbury Lane, which is too small for most Dashboard measures.
A single year can mislead. On each school’s Dashboard report, check whether the 2025 number rose or fell from the year before.
What does the Dashboard show for Liberty High?
Liberty High, 850 Second Street in Brentwood, had 2,836 students on the 2025 Dashboard. Its graduation rate was 95.4%, and 58.8% of students counted as prepared on the college and career measure. English was 29.5 points above standard and math 66.5 below (California School Dashboard, 2025, checked September 25, 2026).
For comparison, the whole Liberty Union district had a 93.5% graduation rate, against 87.8% for the state (same source). Liberty Union runs more than one high school, so confirm which one serves the home.
What else should I know before I pick a home for a school?
A few honest cautions:
- Test scores aren’t the whole school. Visit, ask about class sizes and programs, and talk to the office.
- Commute to school matters here. Excelsior Middle is in Byron and Liberty High is in Brentwood. Ask the district about bus service for the address, and drive the route at school start time.
- Scores move. A school that’s below the state line one year can be above it the next, and the other way around.
