Most Brentwood homes are assigned to Brentwood Union School District for kindergarten through 8th grade and Liberty Union High School District for 9th through 12th. That’s two districts for one address, and a few Brentwood addresses sit in a different elementary district altogether, so check the exact street address with each district before you count on a school.

A Brentwood mailing address doesn’t settle it. The district’s lookup does. Below: which schools, the state’s 2025 numbers for each, and how to check.

Why does a Brentwood address have two school districts?

Because Brentwood splits the grades. Brentwood Union runs the K to 8 schools and Liberty Union runs the high schools. On the 2025 California School Dashboard, Brentwood Union lists grades K to 8 with 10,049 students, and Liberty Union lists grades 9 to adult with 8,228 students (California School Dashboard, 2025 district reports, checked September 25, 2026).

So for any home you’ll look up two assignments: one for K to 8 and one for high school.

Which K to 8 schools does Brentwood Union run?

Nine elementary schools and three middle schools, all with Brentwood addresses. Grade spans and enrollment are from each school’s 2025 Dashboard profile (California School Dashboard, 2025, checked September 25, 2026).

School Grades Students Address
Brentwood Elementary K to 5 811 200 Griffith Lane
Garin Elementary K to 5 785 250 First Street
Isaac R. Montañez Elementary K to 5 444 2340 Smith Road
Loma Vista Elementary K to 5 749 2110 San Jose Avenue
Marsh Creek Elementary K to 5 550 601 Grant Street
Mary Casey Black Elementary K to 5 680 480 Farmington Drive
Pioneer Elementary K to 5 859 2010 Shady Willow Lane
R. Paul Krey Elementary K to 5 885 190 Crawford Drive
Ron Nunn Elementary K to 5 702 1755 Central Boulevard
Adams (J. Douglas) Middle 6 to 8 1,197 401 American Avenue
Edna Hill Middle 6 to 8 1,047 140 Birch Street
William B. Bristow Middle 6 to 8 1,223 855 Minnesota Avenue

The closest school to a house isn’t always the assigned one. Boundaries follow lines on the district’s map, not driving distance.

Which high schools serve Brentwood?

Liberty Union runs two comprehensive high schools in Brentwood and a third in Oakley (California School Dashboard, 2025, checked September 25, 2026):

  • Liberty High, 850 Second Street, Brentwood, grades 9 to 12, 2,836 students.
  • Heritage High, 101 American Avenue, Brentwood, grades 9 to 12, 2,566 students.
  • Freedom High, 1050 Neroly Road, Oakley, grades 9 to 12, 2,460 students.

The district also lists Independence High (929 Second Street, 163 students) and La Paloma High (400 Ghiggeri Way, 178 students), a continuation school. Which comprehensive high school a home is assigned to comes from Liberty Union’s map, and a Brentwood address can be assigned to a school in Oakley.

Are any Brentwood addresses outside Brentwood Union?

Yes. Old River Elementary, 30 Learning Lane, has a Brentwood address, but it’s a K to 8 school in Knightsen Elementary School District, with 332 students (California School Dashboard, 2025, checked September 25, 2026). So some homes with a Brentwood address fall in Knightsen’s area for K to 8, not Brentwood Union’s.

We couldn’t find a published street list showing exactly which Brentwood addresses go where. That’s the reason to call. Don’t take a listing’s school line on faith, ours included.

How do I check the school for one Brentwood address?

Use each district’s own tool, then call to confirm. It takes ten minutes.

  1. K to 8: go to Brentwood Union’s Attendance Boundaries page at brentwood.k12.ca.us/page/attendance-boundaries/. The district office is at 255 Guthrie Lane, (925) 513-6300 (California Department of Education, district profile, checked September 25, 2026).
  2. High school: use Liberty Union’s Find My School locator, linked from luhsd.net under Find My School. The district’s own page says, “Close to a boundary line? Call 925.634.2166 x 2021 to verify!” (Liberty Union High School District, Find My School page, checked September 25, 2026)
  3. If Brentwood Union says the address isn’t theirs: ask Knightsen Elementary School District, 1923 Delta Road, Knightsen.
  4. Get it in writing. Boundaries and school assignments can change. Ask the district to confirm the address, and ask about enrollment steps and open enrollment while you’re on the phone.

A listing, a website or an agent is not a boundary. The district is.

How do I read the Dashboard numbers?

The California School Dashboard is the state’s official report card, run by the California Department of Education. For test scores it shows “distance from standard”: how many points a school’s average score sits above or below the state’s “Standard Met” line in English and math. A plus number is above the line and a minus number is below it.

Chronic absenteeism is the share of K to 8 students who missed 10% or more of school days. The Dashboard doesn’t report it for high schools. For high schools, look at the graduation rate and the share counted “Prepared” on the college and career measure.

What about GreatSchools or Niche?

Those are private websites with their own formulas. We don’t repeat their ratings as fact. If you use them, read how each builds its score and hold it up against the state’s Dashboard numbers above. The Dashboard also links each school’s School Accountability Report Card, which covers class sizes, teacher credentials and the condition of the buildings.

Questions people also ask

What school district is Brentwood, CA in?

Most Brentwood addresses have two: Brentwood Union School District for kindergarten through 8th grade and Liberty Union High School District for high school, per the 2025 California School Dashboard checked September 25, 2026. Some addresses fall in Knightsen Elementary School District for K to 8 instead, like the area served by Old River Elementary. Verify the exact address with each district before you buy.

Which high school will a Brentwood home go to?

It depends on the address. Liberty Union assigns Brentwood homes to Liberty High on Second Street, Heritage High on American Avenue, or in some cases Freedom High in Oakley. Use the Find My School locator on luhsd.net, and if the home is near a boundary line, the district asks you to call 925.634.2166 extension 2021 to verify, per its page checked September 25, 2026.

How do I check Brentwood Union school boundaries?

Start at Brentwood Union’s Attendance Boundaries page on brentwood.k12.ca.us, then call the district office at 255 Guthrie Lane, (925) 513-6300, to confirm the assignment for the full street address. Boundaries follow the district’s map, not the nearest school, and they can change. Ask for the answer in writing before you remove contingencies on a purchase.

Where can I see official test scores for Brentwood schools?

Go to caschooldashboard.org and search the school’s name. The 2025 Dashboard shows English and math results, chronic absenteeism for K to 8 schools, and graduation and college/career rates for high schools, with the change from the year before. The same page links the school’s School Accountability Report Card for class size and staffing details.
