Does Brentwood have BART, and what is the commute really like?

No. Brentwood has no BART station, and no extension to Brentwood is funded or being built. The closest station is Antioch, and most transit riders get there on Tri Delta Transit route 373 from the Brentwood Park and Ride, which the weekday timetable shows taking 47 minutes on the 6:50 am trip (Tri Delta Transit, route 373 timetable, checked September 25, 2026).

Then comes BART itself, 73 more minutes to Embarcadero. That’s the honest trade. Here’s how each piece works, so you can judge a house by the commute you’d actually have.

How long is the average Brentwood commute?

Long. Census Bureau survey data put Brentwood’s average commute at 46 minutes, the longest of any U.S. city, and about 38% of Brentwood commutes take an hour or more (NBC Bay Area, “Brentwood has longest average commute in the US, census data shows,” February 18, 2025). KTVU added that about 75 percent of Brentwood workers drive to work (KTVU, September 15, 2025).

That’s an average across every job and every direction. Your number depends on where you work, what time you leave and whether you ride or drive.

Where do I catch the bus to BART in Brentwood?

At the Brentwood Park and Ride, which Tri Delta lists as Walnut Boulevard at Dainty (Tri Delta Transit, Mobility Hubs page, checked September 25, 2026). Route 373 starts there, stops at 2nd Street and Oak Street, runs up Brentwood Boulevard past Village Drive, Sand Creek Road, Sunset Road and Lone Tree Way, then follows Main Street through Oakley and East 18th Street in Antioch to Antioch BART (route 373 timetable, checked September 25, 2026).

So you can also catch it on Brentwood Boulevard if you live closer to that than to Walnut. Route 373 runs seven days a week.

What does a real weekday trip look like?

Here’s the morning run into the city, using Tri Delta’s weekday timetable and BART’s schedule for Tuesday, October 6, 2026 (both checked September 25, 2026):

Step Leave Arrive Time on paper
Route 373, Brentwood Park and Ride to Antioch BART 6:50 am 7:37 am 47 minutes
Wait on the platform 7:37 am 7:47 am 10 minutes
BART, Antioch to Embarcadero 7:47 am 9:00 am 73 minutes

That’s 2 hours and 10 minutes from the Park and Ride to Embarcadero on paper, before you walk to the office. Tri Delta says its times are approximate and can shift with traffic. BART schedules change too, so check both the week you plan to ride.

Heading home, the 6:00 pm bus from Antioch BART reaches the Brentwood Park and Ride at 6:42 pm on the weekday timetable. The last weekday bus leaves Antioch BART at midnight and gets to the Park and Ride at 12:43 am.

How much does it cost each way?

About $11.65 each way for an adult into San Francisco, our math from two posted fares. Tri Delta’s local cash fare is $2.00 for adults 6 to 64 (Tri Delta Transit, Fares and Passes, checked September 25, 2026). BART from Antioch to Embarcadero is $9.65 on Clipper (BART fare data for October 6, 2026, checked September 25, 2026).

Clipper can bring the bus side down. Tri Delta applies a transfer discount between BART and its buses when you pay with Clipper (Tri Delta Transit, Transfer Policy, checked September 25, 2026). If you ride most days, compare that with Tri Delta’s 31-day pass, $57.00 for the general public (Fares and Passes page).

Not going all the way to the city? BART lists Antioch to Walnut Creek at 37 minutes and $5.40, and Antioch to 12th Street Oakland at 61 minutes and $7.30 (BART data for October 6, 2026).

Will BART ever come to Brentwood?

Nobody has a date, and we won’t guess. In 2014, BART studied six sites for a future eBART stop past Antioch and picked a site near Highway 4 and the Mokelumne Trail as the preferred end of the line. On May 11, 2017, the BART Board passed a resolution supporting a Brentwood Transit Center there, which could be served by Tri Delta buses first and could eventually become a station (BART news release, May 11, 2017, checked September 25, 2026).

Support is not funding. BART’s current projects page lists no extension to Brentwood (checked September 25, 2026). One piece did get built: the Mokelumne Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing, an 850-foot bridge over Highway 4 on the trail, opened in March 2024, and CCTA says its extra-wide deck was designed to serve a potential future transit station (CCTA news release, March 2024, checked September 25, 2026).

Buy for the commute that exists today. If a station ever comes, treat it as a bonus.

What about driving on Highway 4 or Vasco Road?

Highway 4 is the road toward Antioch, Concord and the rest of the Bay Area. Vasco Road runs south toward Livermore and the Alameda County line. Neither has a published “typical” drive time we can stand behind, so check both on 511.org or a map app at the hour you’d leave, on a weekday, before you write an offer.

Vasco Road is getting a hard look. Contra Costa County Public Works ran the Vasco Road Corridor Safety Improvements Study in 2025, covering the stretch from Marsh Creek Road to the Alameda County line, with ideas like rumble strips, concrete median barriers, wider shoulders, passing lanes and lighting (Contra Costa County Public Works, notices of June 5 and September 17, 2025, checked September 25, 2026). Those are study ideas, not finished projects.

How do I test the commute before I buy?

Do it once for real. It costs you one early morning.

  1. Ride it. Park at Walnut Boulevard and Dainty, take the 373, and ride BART to your stop at the hour you’d really go.
  2. Drive it. Next day, drive Highway 4 or Vasco Road at the same hour, both directions.
  3. Price it. Add the monthly fares or gas and parking to your budget, next to the mortgage.
  4. Map the house to the stop. A home near Brentwood Boulevard and one out past Walnut Boulevard can start the day very differently.
