Mt. Diablo Unified School District runs the public schools in Pleasant Hill, and it picks your elementary, middle and high school by street address. Most Pleasant Hill elementary areas feed College Park High. Fair Oaks does not: its students go on to Ygnacio Valley High in Concord.
Don’t take a listing’s word for it, and don’t take ours. Put the exact address into the district’s locator, then call MDUSD and get the answer from them before you write an offer.
Which district runs Pleasant Hill’s public schools?
Mt. Diablo Unified, known as MDUSD. The district says it has more than 50 school sites in Clayton, Concord, Pleasant Hill, portions of Martinez, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek, and in Bay Point, Lafayette and Pacheco (MDUSD, About Our District page, checked September 24, 2026). It had 29,193 students in 2025-26, and its office is on Carlotta Drive in Concord (California School Dashboard, district profile, checked September 24, 2026).
How do I find the assigned school for one house?
Look it up, read the fine print, then call. That’s the order.
- Run the address through MDUSD’s School Site Locator at schoolsitelocator.com/apps/mtdiablo. You’ll see the elementary, middle and high school for that street.
- Know what the locator is. MDUSD calls it a guideline and says it is not a binding determination of school assignment. The district tells families to contact the school for a final answer (MDUSD, Find Your School page, checked September 24, 2026).
- Call the district. Address questions go to MDUSD’s Assessment, Research and Evaluation department at (925) 682-8000 ext. 4135 (same page). Get the answer before your contingency period ends.
Where does each Pleasant Hill elementary school feed?
Here’s MDUSD’s own feeder chart for the elementary schools with a Pleasant Hill address, with each school’s 2025 California School Dashboard results. English and math are shown as points above (+) or below (-) the state standard, with the Dashboard color in parentheses. Enrollment is 2025-26 (California School Dashboard 2025 and MDUSD School Feeder Pattern page, both checked September 24, 2026):
| Elementary (K-5) | Street | Students | English | Math | Then middle school | Then high school |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fair Oaks | Lisa Lane | 323 | -91.8 (Red) | -97.8 (Red) | Oak Grove or Pleasant Hill | Ygnacio Valley |
| Gregory Gardens | Corritone Court | 409 | -24.5 (Orange) | -26.2 (Orange) | Pleasant Hill or Valley View | College Park |
| Pleasant Hill Elementary | Oak Park Boulevard | 652 | +7.7 (Yellow) | +8.0 (Green) | Pleasant Hill | College Park |
| Strandwood | Gladys Drive | 596 | +25.6 (Green) | +11.1 (Green) | Pleasant Hill | College Park |
| Valhalla | Kiki Drive | 721 | +27.9 (Green) | +13.3 (Green) | Valley View | College Park |
| Sequoia Elementary | Boyd Road | 594 | +38.2 (Green) | +30.3 (Green) | Based on address | Based on address |
When the chart names two middle schools, your street decides which. Homes near the edges of town can be assigned to a school with a Concord or Martinez address, which is one more reason the locator comes first.
What about the middle schools and College Park High?
Four MDUSD middle and high schools have Pleasant Hill addresses. Valley View Middle and College Park High sit side by side on Viking Drive. Their 2025 results (California School Dashboard 2025, checked September 24, 2026):
| School | Street | Students | English | Math | Chronic absence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pleasant Hill Middle | Santa Barbara Road | 738 | +17.9 (Blue) | -17.7 (Green) | 16.3% (Yellow) |
| Valley View Middle | Viking Drive | 819 | +8.2 (Green) | -20.3 (Green) | 13.9% (Orange) |
| Sequoia Middle | Boyd Road | 882 | +12.0 (Green) | -9.3 (Yellow) | 8.7% (Green) |
| College Park High | Viking Drive | 1,948 | +30.8 (Green) | -24.2 (Yellow) | n/a |
College Park’s 2025 graduation rate was 95.0% (Blue), and 57.1% of its graduates counted as prepared for college or a career (same source). High school test scores come from 11th graders only, so one class can swing them.
Can I get into Sequoia Elementary or Sequoia Middle?
Maybe, but not by buying next door. MDUSD lists both Sequoia schools, on Boyd Road, as district-wide schools open to students who live inside MDUSD’s boundaries (MDUSD, Find Your School page, checked September 24, 2026). The district’s feeder chart adds that enrollment is based on an approved intradistrict transfer (MDUSD, School Feeder Pattern page, checked September 24, 2026).
So a house near Sequoia still gets a neighborhood school from the locator. If Sequoia matters to you, read each school’s enrollment steps and deadlines directly.
What if the locator says “Choice” for high school?
Then that street has no assigned high school, and the student may pick an MDUSD high school. MDUSD’s instructions send those families to its Unassigned High School Attendance Area form (MDUSD, Find Your School page, checked September 24, 2026). None of the Pleasant Hill elementary areas in the feeder chart above list Choice, but check the exact address anyway.
How does Mt. Diablo Unified compare with California overall?
Near the state line on most measures. 2025 Dashboard numbers for the whole district and for California (California School Dashboard 2025, checked September 24, 2026):
| Measure (2025) | MDUSD | California |
|---|---|---|
| English, points vs. standard | -11.2 (Yellow) | -8.1 |
| Math, points vs. standard | -41.1 (Yellow) | -42.4 |
| Graduation rate | 89.9% (Green) | 87.8% |
| Prepared for college or career | 44.7% | 51.7% |
| Chronic absenteeism | 18.4% (Orange) | 17.1% |
The Dashboard grades each measure in five colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue, lowest to highest. A color reflects both this year’s number and the change since last year.
How much should the scores decide?
Less than you’d think. They’re one year of test results and a handful of other measures. They say nothing about a given teacher, program or how a school fits one kid. Visit, read the full Dashboard report and the School Accountability Report Card, and ask your questions in person. Then weigh the school next to the house, the street and your commute.
Questions people also ask
Is Pleasant Hill in Mt. Diablo Unified School District?
Yes. MDUSD’s About Our District page lists Pleasant Hill among the cities it serves, checked September 24, 2026. The district assigns schools by street address, and its online locator is a guide, not a final ruling. Before you commit to a house, confirm the assigned schools with MDUSD at (925) 682-8000 ext. 4135 or with the school itself.
What high school do Pleasant Hill students attend?
Most Pleasant Hill elementary areas feed College Park High on Viking Drive, per MDUSD’s School Feeder Pattern page, checked September 24, 2026. If I live near Sequoia Elementary, do I get a spot?
No. MDUSD says Sequoia Elementary and Sequoia Middle are district-wide schools open to students living anywhere within its boundaries, and its feeder chart says enrollment is through an approved intradistrict transfer, per mdusd.org, checked September 24, 2026. Living nearby doesn’t assign you there. Check each school’s application steps and deadlines directly with the school.
Where can I see a Pleasant Hill school’s full report?
Search the school at caschooldashboard.org and open its 2025 report. You’ll see each measure’s color, the change from 2024 and the results by student group. The School Accountability Report Card, linked from MDUSD’s site, covers class sizes, teacher credentials and facilities. Neither one settles boundaries, so confirm the assignment with the district.
