For most homes inside Lafayette city limits, it’s Lafayette School District for kindergarten through 8th grade and Acalanes Union High School District for 9th through 12th. Which elementary school and which high school depends on the exact street, so check the parcel with both districts before you write an offer.
Here is who runs what, the 2025 state numbers for each school, and the two parcel taxes you’ll see on a Lafayette tax bill.
Which districts cover Lafayette?
Two districts split the grades. Lafayette School District runs four elementary schools (K to 5) and one middle school (6 to 8) (Lafayette School District, Attendance Boundaries page, checked September 25, 2026). Its office is at 3477 School Street, and the state counts 3,235 students in 2025-26 (California School Dashboard, Lafayette Elementary district profile, 2025).
High school is Acalanes Union High School District, headquartered at 1212 Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette, with 5,425 students (California School Dashboard, Acalanes Union High district profile, 2025). Lafayette students are assigned to one of two of its schools: Acalanes High in Lafayette or Campolindo High in Moraga.
A Lafayette mailing address is not proof of a Lafayette school assignment. If the house sits outside city limits, don’t assume either district. Ask both whether the parcel is theirs.
Which elementary school goes with a Lafayette house?
It follows the district’s internal boundary map, with exceptions. Lafayette School District says its map is “for general reference only,” and that K to 5 students sometimes attend a district school other than the one the boundaries show. To confirm the home school for a parcel, the district asks you to call the District Office at (925) 927-3500 (Attendance Boundaries page, checked September 25, 2026).
The five schools, with 2025 enrollment (California School Dashboard, 2025):
| School | Address | Grades | Students |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burton Valley Elementary | 561 Merriewood Drive | K to 5 | 653 |
| Happy Valley Elementary | 3855 Happy Valley Road | K to 5 | 463 |
| Lafayette Elementary | 950 Moraga Road | K to 5 | 515 |
| Springhill Elementary | 3301 Springhill Road | K to 5 | 479 |
| M. H. Stanley Middle | 3455 School Street | 6 to 8 | 1,117 |
What does the state data show for these schools?
The Dashboard reports test results as points above or below the state standard. For 2025, every Lafayette School District school scored above standard in English and math (California School Dashboard, 2025 data, read September 25, 2026):
| School | English (points above standard) | Math (points above standard) | Chronic absenteeism |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burton Valley Elementary | 72.3 | 72.0 | 3.6% |
| Happy Valley Elementary | 84.2 | 77.1 | 2.4% |
| Lafayette Elementary | 87.3 | 77.4 | 3.2% |
| Springhill Elementary | 76.4 | 72.3 | 2.3% |
| M. H. Stanley Middle | 57.7 | 61.1 | 6.6% |
| District overall | 68.0 | 67.3 | 4.2% |
For context, the statewide results that year were 8.1 points below standard in English, 42.4 below in math, and 17.1% chronic absenteeism (same source). Test scores are one slice of a school. Visit, ask questions, and read each school’s full Dashboard page and its School Accountability Report Card.
Acalanes or Campolindo: which high school is mine?
The street decides. Acalanes Union High says “your neighborhood high school is based on your street address” and points you to its Schoolsite Locator Tool on the district’s School Site Information page. Questions about a street go to residency staff at 925-280-3900, ext. 6629 (acalanes.k12.ca.us, checked September 25, 2026). We don’t publish a street list for Campolindo versus Acalanes, because the locator is the official answer. Run the exact address.
The 2025 state numbers for both schools (California School Dashboard, 2025 data, read September 25, 2026):
| Acalanes High | Campolindo High | |
|---|---|---|
| Address | 1200 Pleasant Hill Road, Lafayette | 300 Moraga Road, Moraga |
| Students | 1,256 | 1,340 |
| Graduation rate | 97.5% | 98.5% |
| College and career “prepared” | 86.5% | 88.5% |
| English, points above standard | 97.6 | 99.5 |
| Math, points above standard | 54.5 | 61.0 |
Statewide, the 2025 graduation rate was 87.8% and 51.7% of graduates counted as prepared for college or career (same source).
Do Lafayette homeowners pay school parcel taxes?
Yes, on the property tax bill. Both districts collect them, and one more is on the ballot.
- Lafayette School District, Measure H. Replaces an expiring parcel tax with $585 per parcel for 9 years, about $5.1 million a year, with a senior exemption and yearly inflation adjustments. Voters approved it with 75.07% on June 2, 2026, above the 66.67% required. The district also still collects its 2014 Measure J&B parcel tax, and says the two together are more than 15% of its revenue (Lafayette School District, Parcel Tax Information page, checked September 25, 2026).
- Acalanes Union High, Measure W. A proposed $168 per parcel for eight years, about $6,000,000 a year, with senior exemptions. It is on the November 3, 2026 ballot and needs two-thirds approval (Acalanes Union High, Measure W page, checked September 25, 2026).
That page doesn’t list the current Measure J&B dollar amount, so read the actual tax bill for any house you’re buying. For what these taxes mean for your own budget or deductions, talk to a tax professional or the Contra Costa County Treasurer-Tax Collector.
How do I check a specific house?
Do it in writing, before your contingencies run out.
- Call Lafayette School District at (925) 927-3500 with the parcel address to confirm the elementary school.
- Run the address in the Acalanes Union High Schoolsite Locator for the high school.
- If the address is outside city limits, ask both districts whether it is theirs at all.
- Pull the current property tax bill and look for the parcel tax lines.
Listing remarks and school finder websites can be out of date. The districts are the only answer that counts.
