Mostly outdoor stuff, and more of it than people expect. Antioch sits between two East Bay Regional Park District parks, Contra Loma and Black Diamond Mines, and a city marina on the San Joaquin River, and the city runs events through the year, including a holiday parade in the historic Rivertown district.

Nightlife is thin, and most errands mean a car. If your weekends run on trails, water and the occasional street festival, here’s what’s actually open and what it costs, checked September 25, 2026.

Where can I hike or fish in Antioch?

Contra Loma and Black Diamond Mines, both on the south side of town off Highway 4.

Most of the old coal mining district is inside the preserve’s nearly 8,533 acres, with trails for hiking, picnic spots and naturalist programs. Take Highway 4 to the Somersville Road exit and head south toward the hills. Parking is $5 per vehicle when the kiosk is staffed, which the park district says is seasonal, weekends and some holidays (East Bay Regional Park District, Black Diamond Mines page, checked September 25, 2026).

What’s the honest downside?

Less going on after dark, and a lot of driving. Antioch doesn’t have a dense, walkable nightlife district, and many errands mean a car.
