Is Pleasant Hill BART in Pleasant Hill, and what is the commute?

No, not technically. The Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre station sits just outside the city line in unincorporated Contra Costa Centre, and its official address is 1365 Treat Blvd., Walnut Creek. It still carries the city’s name, and a weekday morning train from there reaches Embarcadero in about 38 minutes for $7.15 on Clipper (BART schedule and fare data for Thursday, October 1, 2026, checked September 24, 2026).

So the name tells you where the trains go, not which city runs the land. Here is why that matters for a buyer, and how the commute actually works.

Why does the station say Walnut Creek if it’s called Pleasant Hill?

Because the land around it belongs to neither city. BART lists the station at 1365 Treat Blvd., Walnut Creek, CA 94597 (BART, Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre station page, checked September 24, 2026). Contra Costa County’s general plan update, which plans for the county’s unincorporated communities, profiles Contra Costa Centre as the community between Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Concord, next to the station (Contra Costa County, Envision Contra Costa 2040, Contra Costa Centre community profile, draft of October 14, 2024, checked September 25, 2026). The state’s sales tax agency lists the station address itself as unincorporated Contra Costa County (California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, tax rate lookup for 1365 Treat Blvd., checked September 25, 2026).

What that means in plain terms: the county, not the City of Pleasant Hill, handles planning around the station. A mailing address is set by the Postal Service, so it does not tell you which city a home is in. For any home near Treat Boulevard, look up the parcel with the Contra Costa County Assessor to confirm the jurisdiction before you write an offer.

Watch the name trap: Contra Costa Centre vs. Contra Costa Center

Two places, two spellings. The BART area is Contra Costa Centre, in the unincorporated county. The City of Pleasant Hill also has a “Contra Costa Center Specific Plan,” which covers a shopping site between I-680 and Buskirk Avenue, inside city limits (City of Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa Center Specific Plan page, checked September 24, 2026). If a listing or a report mentions one, check which one it means.

How long is the BART ride to San Francisco and Oakland?

About 38 minutes to Embarcadero and 26 minutes to 12th Street Oakland City Center, with no transfer. The station is on the Yellow Line (Antioch to SFO/Millbrae). BART’s schedule for Thursday, October 1, 2026 shows these morning trips:

Leaves Pleasant Hill/CC Centre Destination Arrives Ride

7:33 a.m. Embarcadero 8:11 a.m. 38 min
7:41 a.m. Montgomery St. 8:21 a.m. 40 min
7:53 a.m. Civic Center/UN Plaza 8:36 a.m. 43 min
8:01 a.m. Embarcadero 8:40 a.m. 39 min

Source: BART official schedule data (api.bart.gov), checked September 24, 2026. Going home, the 5:20 p.m. from Embarcadero is scheduled into the station at 5:58 p.m., a 38 minute ride. The station page’s weekday list shows southbound trains leaving every 8 to 12 minutes through the morning.

Plan around track work, too. On September 24, 2026, BART’s station page listed single tracking near the station for vegetation work (next work day October 4) and late-night Yellow Line work in Contra Costa County. Check bart.gov the week you ride.

What does BART cost from Pleasant Hill?

$7.15 each way to downtown San Francisco and $4.80 to downtown Oakland, adult Clipper (BART fare data for October 1, 2026, checked September 24, 2026).

Clipper fare type To Embarcadero or Montgomery To 12th St. Oakland
Adult $7.15 $4.80
Clipper START or Youth $3.55 $2.40

Yes. The Iron Horse pedestrian and bicycle trail runs right to the station. BART lists 88 on-demand BikeLink lockers, 10 free Bikeep smart racks and a bike station at 7011 Sunne Lane with secure self-parking and a repair shop (BART station page, checked September 24, 2026).

BART’s station page also lists Wheels Route 70X express service to Dublin/Pleasanton BART and AC Transit’s 702 Early Bird Express.

What about driving?

I-680 runs north and south through Pleasant Hill and connects to Highway 24 toward Oakland, the Bay Bridge and San Francisco (City of Pleasant Hill, Economic Development page, checked September 24, 2026). If you drive into San Francisco, the Bay Bridge toll for a two-axle car is $8.50 in 2026, and FasTrak tag rates step up each January from 2027 through 2030 (MTC, “New Bridge Toll Rates Now in Effect,” January 2, 2026).

We won’t quote a drive time. No official source publishes a typical one, and it changes by the hour. Open 511.org, the region’s official traveler information site, and check live conditions on I-680 and Highway 24 at the hour you would leave.

How do I test this commute before I buy?

Ride it from the house, not from the station. Leave the front door at your real start time on a Tuesday or Wednesday, get to the platform the way you would every day (walk, bike, bus or car), and time it door to door both ways. Do it once from each home you’re serious about. The trip to the platform is where two houses a mile apart can differ the most.
