Late winter through early summer, if you want the fastest sale. Across Contra Costa County in 2026, single-family homes sold in a median of 12 to 13 days in every month from February through June, then slowed to 15 days in July and 20 in August (C.A.R., monthly home sales and price reports, checked September 25, 2026).
That’s the county pattern, not a promise for your street. Price, condition and your own move date matter as much as the calendar. Here’s what the numbers say and how to use them in Antioch.
Where does Antioch stand going into fall 2026?
Still moving. Redfin shows a median of 21 days on market for Antioch homes sold in August 2026, with 252 homes sold that month. The median sale price was $595,106, up 2.6% from a year earlier (Redfin, Antioch housing market page, August 2026, checked September 24, 2026).
Two more numbers from the same Redfin page tell you how that month felt. Homes sold for 101.7% of list price on average, and 62.3% sold above list. But 29.6% of listings had a price drop. Our read: buyers paid up for homes that were priced right and passed on the ones that weren’t.
What does the season look like month by month?
We don’t have an Antioch-only monthly series, so here’s the county’s. C.A.R.’s reports cover existing single-family homes in Contra Costa County. Median days on market, 2026:
- February and March: 13 days each.
- April: 12 days, the quickest month of the year so far.
- May and June: 13 days each.
- July: 15 days.
- August: 20 days.
Source: C.A.R. reports for March (released April 21, 2026), May (released June 17, 2026), June (released July 16, 2026) and August (released September 16, 2026), each showing the month before, checked September 25, 2026.
Last year ran on a similar curve. The same reports show 12 days in March 2025, 14 in May 2025, 17 in June 2025 and 21 in August 2025. Two years, same shape: quick in spring, slower by late summer.
Do spring sellers get higher prices?
Sometimes, but the median can fool you. Contra Costa’s single-family median rose from $819,000 in February 2026 to $870,000 in March, $875,000 in April and $935,000 in May (C.A.R., March and May 2026 reports, checked September 25, 2026).
Part of that rise is which homes sell. The mix changes month to month, and a month with more large homes in it can push the median up even if no single house gained a dollar. Look at the year-over-year view too. March 2026’s $870,000 was below March 2025’s $907,000, while May 2026’s $935,000 was above May 2025’s $924,950 (same reports). The calendar helped, but it didn’t decide the price.
What does this mean for an Antioch seller?
Aim for a spring listing if you can plan ahead, and price to the recent sales if you can’t. C.A.R. counts a sale in the month it closes. Escrow adds weeks on top of days on market, so a home that closes in May usually went live in March or April.
If you’re listing this fall, don’t sit out six months just for the calendar. With 29.6% of Antioch listings cutting their price in August 2026 (Redfin), the risk in the cooler months isn’t that no one shows up. It’s starting too high and chasing the market down. Price it right from the first weekend.
What should I get ready before I list in Antioch?
Two items trip up Antioch sellers on timing, because they come from outside offices:
- Special tax notices. If your home is in a Mello-Roos district, California requires you to make a good faith effort to get the special tax notice from each agency that levies one and give it to your buyer (California Civil Code section 1102.6b, checked September 25, 2026). Several Community Facilities Districts collect on Antioch tax bills. Start early. Tax questions go to a tax professional.
- The Natural Hazard Disclosure report. It covers things like whether the home is in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (California Civil Code sections 1103 and 1103.2, checked September 25, 2026). FEMA’s study names a few Antioch spots near West Antioch Creek, Lake Alhambra and Markley Creek. Know your answer before a buyer asks.
Then the usual prep: repairs, paint, a pre-listing inspection if your home is older. Give it four to six weeks. For a spring launch, that means starting in January or February.
Is it a mistake to sell in winter?
No. It’s a smaller market in both directions. Fewer buyers are out, but fewer homes compete with yours. Some winter buyers have a firm deadline, like a new job or a lease ending. A clean, well-priced Antioch home can still sell in December. It just has less room for a wishful first price.
If you’re buying your next home at the same time, talk to your lender early about the order. Buying first, selling first and a short rent-back each carry costs and risks. Get the numbers from the lender and a tax professional before you pick a month.
Questions people also ask
What month do houses sell fastest in Antioch?
We don’t have Antioch-only monthly data, so use the county. In 2026, Contra Costa single-family homes sold fastest in April, at a median of 12 days on market, with February, March, May and June at 13 days, per C.A.R. reports checked September 25, 2026. Antioch’s own median in August 2026 was 21 days, per Redfin.
Is fall a good time to sell a house in Antioch?
It can be, with the right price. In Contra Costa, median days on market rose from 13 in June 2026 to 20 in August, per C.A.R. In Antioch, Redfin shows 21 days in August 2026, with 62.3% of homes selling above list and 29.6% taking a price cut. Fall buyers pay for homes that are priced right from day one.
Do homes in Antioch sell for more in spring?
The county median usually peaks in late spring. C.A.R. shows Contra Costa’s single-family median at $935,000 in May 2026, up from $819,000 in February. Part of that is the mix of homes selling, not only what each home was worth. Price your Antioch home from recent nearby sales, not from the county’s monthly median.
How far ahead should I start getting ready to sell?
Four to six weeks for most homes, longer if you need repairs. In Antioch, also allow time to gather special tax notices if your home is in a Mello-Roos district, as California Civil Code section 1102.6b requires sellers to try to provide them. For a spring listing, start in January or February. Ask a tax professional about the tax side.
